It’s difficult to articulate how intense the excitement was for Disney’s animated Mulan when it came out. Not only would Disney FINALLY have an Asian princess, but Lea Salonga would be her singing voice! I mean, Ming-na Wen, who did Mulan’s speaking voice is great, but Lea Salonga is Filipina and trust me when I say the Fil-Am community was frickin’ STOKED. (I mean, she wasn’t technically a princess, not even close, but marketing-wise, she’s the equivalent, and what else matters when we’re talking Disney?)
So I was predisposed to love this film. And so I did.
